Namibia Luxury Hunt

Namibia is known as one of the better plains game hunting countries in all of Africa. In addition to being home to most all species in other countries, Namibia is well known for its abundant oryx population. These animals can weigh up to 650 pounds and their near perfectly straight horns average almost three feet in length but can reach 60 inches.

Your hosts are Stephan and Gaby Voigt. Owners of a 7500 hectare (over 18,500 acres) working cattle farm located only a 30 minute drive from the capitol, Windhoek, Stephan’s great grandfather was a German immigrant who started this cattle farming operation in 1893. A few years ago Stephan opened up the area to but a few hunts a year with select groups and we are fortunate enough to have secured a few of these slots. As Stephan added the plains game hunts, Gaby decided to convert a few of the extra bedrooms into a bed and breakfast. There are only four rooms so all hunters onto this property will have exclusive use of the farm. Four course meals are a testament to Gaby’s dedication to her craft.

Hunting There are primarily two forms of hunting taking place – walking and stalking or shooting from a blind or cover. Breakfast will be served in the lodge. Most likely you will return for lunch and then head back out to hunt again in the afternoon.

Accommodations Facilities at Voigtland include indoor and outdoor dining facilities, patio, sitting room with satellite TV, WiFi, fireplace and pool. For a longer list of independent reviews of the guesthouse portion of this property search for Voigtland on Trip Advisor.

Getting There Most of the hunters fly direct to Johannesburg from Atlanta, Washington, DC or New York. There are a number of flights then to connect into Windhoek, Namibia. The drive from the airport to the lodge is only 30 minutes.

Climate The hunting season runs from April – October with the primary months being June, July and August. Weather in the Namibia can sometimes bring overnight lows of freezing. The weather benefit to hunting in southern Africa occurs during the daylight hours when there is copious sunshine and moderate temperatures often reaching the mid 60’s.
